Xelalin and Beast Clan Treaties

Xelalin and Beast Clan Treaties

Written by Cassie

There are so many things that you aren't prepared for as a hatchling. Such as the line between good and evil that you will continually have to walk or the variety of different beliefs on Sornieth. One of the most interesting parts of Sornieth is Xelalin.

Xelalin is a Spiral but he doesn't see himself that way. Even though he has seen other Spirals and can compare their bodies to his, he doesn't see himself that way and I doubt he ever will. Instead he sees himself as a Harpy traveling with a Fallen Streak, his familiar since before he can remember.

Why is he this way?

He was raised by Harpies and, due to the process of imprinting, he sees himself as one rather than a dragon.

Why did he join Seitou's Clan?

I can never get a clear answer from him and I don't want to push the boundaries of our friendship. Besides, I don't think even he knows why he left his Beast Clan for a dragon clan.

Seitou is a different breed of dragon than most. Most dragons wouldn't consider teaming up with the Beast Clans. And, if they did, it would never be a long term goal as the dragons wouldn't hold up their end of the bargain if they didn't have to.

Before Xelalin came to the clan, the only Beast Clan that had signed our treaty was the Talanok. The Dunhoof tend to be friendly to dragons, but the treaty is a little hard even for them. Especially as the divide between Centaurs gets greater.

I had spent many months dealing with the more aggressive Centaurs, but had no luck. They did not attack me but I knew that our next meeting wouldn't be as friendly and it would take all my power to not let a fight break out.

When Xelalin came, the Harpies signed the treaty. I think it was their love and admiration of Xelalin that made it impossible for them to truly consider fighting him. I guess sometimes loyalty is so much more than blood.

Now Xelalin is the main diplomat for the Beast Clans as he is the one who knows them the best. Knows how to communicate with them and come to a peaceful solution.

As of writing this article, he hasn't managed to secure another Beast Clan.
